12 Week Challenge :

First reactions to the 12 Week Challenge

sion

Evening all! My name’s Sion, I’m a 23 year old male and I was fortunate enough to have been chosen to participate in the Bio-Synergy 12 Week Challenge.

Personally, weight has never been a major concern of mine. I have been lucky enough to find gaining and losing weight pretty easy and for the past couple of years I’ve managed to bat around the 12 and a half stone mark regardless of how much I eat or how much I exercise. What I’ve always struggled with, however, is toning my body. I find this to be the biggest challenge of all and I was thrilled to see that Bio-Synergy were offering to give me some much needed help to reach this goal after many years of failed attempts.

The start to my 12 Week Challenge has been a bit of a rocky one to say the least. I began my training programme before receiving any of my supplements, in order to get my head around the routine that I’d be facing week in, week out, and I began making some efforts to cut out the bad carbs, bad fats, and drink more water. First small steps for man.

The exercise plan is intense, but I was pleasantly surprised after my first few weeks to find that I wasn’t keeling over in bed as I thought I would, but in fact, I wasn’t aching too much at all! First couple of sessions being an exception. That was a bit of a shock to the system (but I survived!!). The routine is great, you can really feel it working all of your muscles and it’s very well spread out. I quickly learnt which of my muscles I had forgotten about as I started to feel that satisfying burn you get after a good work out. Things were looking promising!

The biggest challenge I found was to get my head around the food shop, as it was so different to what I used to eat, i.e. rubbish. I found myself taking more interest in the contents of food, reading all the packages and stretching out a 20 minutes food shop into an hour. But once I was used to the certain meals I could have, when I would have them, what meals I could take with me to work, it all became a lot simpler to forward plan. Now, I find I’m experimenting with new foods and discovering some lovely tasty meals that are so much better for me than the old fatty rubbish I used to have. And I’m really enjoying my morning fruit smoothies to kick start my day.

Hitting the festive period has been another rocky patch, although I have managed to keep up my training programme, Christmas dinner was too tempting and I did misbehave a little. A beer or two may have crept in there somewhere too… But the way I see it, as long as I work even harder in during my exercise regime and make a big effort to get the nutrition plan back on track, I will forgive myself.

There’s still a long way to go yet, and now with Christmas out the way, I can’t wait to really see what the combination of expert help, supplements and hard work can really do! Bring on 2013!!

Its been a while….

Since I last updated;  the 2012 season finished in mid November with an interational race on the Olympic course at the Lee Valley white water centre . Saturday was the heats race where I finished the day 17th in a field of over 60 and therefor qualified to the next day as 40 went through.  I performed two solid runs down the fast open course, I was happy with the days paddling but knew I needed to step my game up the next day. Sunday arrived with one run semifinal where again I produced a solid run, mistake free on the tight and more technical course, finishing 7th and earning a place in the 10 man final. In the final I produced one of my best runs of the season and narrowly missed out on the podium in 4th place. I was very pleased to be finishing the season with my best ever result in a British race.

Fuelled by my recent success, I started my winter training. Up until now that has been made up of many hours in the gym, continually building on my strength. I have also gone back to some basic technique work with my paddling style to try and use my strength better and more efficiently.

I am looking forward now to a few pre season races in France at the end of February before GB Team selection over two weekends in April.

New Year – New Goals

Georgia Devaney

After eating and drinking to much over the Christmas period, it was back to training ready for the competition season to start again – I had chance to rest some niggling injuries and start 2013 as I mean to go on!

In March I will be competing at The Irish Open, which is the officially the largest fighting tournament in Europe! Last year I missed it due to injury, so this year – I’m ready! I will be competing in points sparring and musical forms. I’ll be keeping you all up-to date and blogging about training and uploading more videos, as I have a fancy new camera now.

Good luck to all those in the 12 week challenge, remember…

12 Week Challenge :

1 Week Down, 11 More To Go!

robert

Hey guys,

My names Robert, I’m 24 years old and from Leeds, West Yorkshire. I was one of the fortunate few who was accepted onto Bio-Synergy’s 12 Week Challenge several weeks ago. Last Monday I started the challenge, and I’m currently one week in. Let me tell you a little bit about my journey so far.

At the ripe old age of 24 my carb-rich diet and insatiable sweet tooth has caused me to gain a fair amount of excess weight. I’ve been floating round 17.5 stone for some time now. I’m about 6ft 1″ and have quite a large frame so I’ve (kind of) been able to carry it off, but I knew that I needed to shift a good 10kg of fat, mainly from around my waist. Friends and family will usually be polite and not talk about your weight, or they may even have got used to you carrying a bit extra, but you know yourself if you need to trim down, and I knew that I needed to.

Like lots of people out there, I’d found it really hard to stick to diets and attend the gym on a consistent basis. I’d start a new diet but really struggle to have the discipline to stick to it. My main problem with eating was that I didn’t know when to stop, particularly when it came to sweet stuff! Losing weight isn’t rocket science, if you eat healthily and workout consistently, you’ll shed those extra pounds. However, for most of us it isn’t that straightforward. I knew that the Bio-Synergy 12 Week Challenge would be just what I needed to get into shape for the rest of my life.

Just tonight I was in the supermarket and realised how difficult it is to eat healthily. Everywhere you look you are being tempted by foods loaded with sugars and bad fats. As Ann (the nutritionist) said to me, it is usually excess carbohydrates that cause people to gain weight. That’s why in week one of my challenge I’ve made a conscious effort to cut my carbs right down. Now I only get my carbohydrates from vegetables and some fruit. The only time I have the more traditional carbohydrates is when I put two tablespoons of oats in my breakfast shake.

The Bio-Synergy supplements are excellent. I highly recommend the Whey Better Protein if you want super-high quality protein with zero sugars and fats. It tastes great and mixes perfectly, and really helps me move towards my weight loss goals. Plus, you don’t need much of it since it’s 87% whey isolate, which is the best type of protein for muscle gains.

Ann the nutritionist has really helped me so far. She analysed my food intake before I started the challenge, and showed me what I needed to change and explained in detail why that change was necessary. Rather than set me a strict diet, she has so far let me make my own from the advice that she gave to me. Cengiz the strength and conditioning coach has set me some pretty tough workouts, but I’m really enjoying them. I train five days a week and have Thursday and Sunday off. Three of the days involve cardio, machines and free weights and the other two days involve some pretty intense bodyweight exercise circuits, such as pressups and burpees.

The first week has been really good, and I feel really motivated to eat well and exercise in order to shift these extra kilos! The amazing news is, I’ve already lost 2kg and I’m down to around 108.5kg. What a result! It just shows you how expert advice, excellent supplements, healthy eating and exercising can really help you to get in shape! The Bio-Synergy Creatine is helping me to get through the tough workouts, and the Thermogen has been raising my energy levels (as well as helping to burn fat). It’s the first time in my life that I’ve gone a week without anything sweet! On Ann’s advice, I’ve cut out tea and coffee and am drinking plenty of water.

It also keeps me on track to think that you guys are reading this blog and are hopefully inspired to start your own weight loss journey or apply for the 12 Week Challenge yourself.

I’ll be back next week with another update on my progress. Thanks again to Bio-Synergy for this excellent opportunity. Hopefully I’ll be down to around 100kg in 11 weeks’ time!

Scott Wilson – 2012 Achievement Roundup

scottwilson

This year has not been great for me results wise. I started the year a bit late due to working a lot over the first few months of the year, which wasn’t ideal but wouldn’t of made a huge amount of difference overall. In general my riding has just not been good enough, I did not train enough and just wasn’t riding very well.

However I have still had some great moments this year. Riding at the GoodWood festival of speed and finishing 3rd in the British championship were definitely the highlights of 2012 for me. Here is a list of what I have done and what I have achieved this year.

  • British National trials Cup,World Elite class – 3rd
  • World Biketrial championship,Elite – 11th  (France, Spain, Italy)
  • European Biketrial cup Round 2- 5th
  • Overall – 12th (Competed  in 1 of 3 rounds, Denmark)
  • UCI World cup series – 53rd (Competed in 2 of 5 rounds) (Belgium)
  • Rode and competed at ‘Dressler camp’ ; week long trials festival In the Czech republic
  • Invited to the ‘GP Santal Marina di Pietrasanta’  (2,500 spectators present)  5th place finish
  • Invited to compete in the GAS Arena at the GoodWood Festival of speed (thousands of spectators present during the day) where I finished In 2nd place
  •  I have continued my Associate officer role at The Cyclopark. I should be doing some more work with them over the winter In regards to coaching and developing a trials area
  • I was appointed the First ever Rider representative the Biketrial International Union
  • I also recently filmed for Exclusive sports media for a very exciting and interesting new project they are running. It should come out very good.

This weekend it was the final round of the British cup at Shipley Glen In Yorkshire. The day was not good for me, I was worrying a bit too much about my overall championship position rather than on the days result. I rode bad, fell off a lot and broke random things, I ended the day 5th,so not a day to remember.

However I did manage to move up and end the year 3rd In the series. I am the 2012 British Number 3 In the World Elite class – So I am very happy with this and its a great result to end the year with!

I’d like to thank Bio-Synergy for all your support In 2012, it is all greatly appreciated. I hope we can continue working together in 2013!

Thank you very much,

Scott

Scott Wilson 2nd Place In the British National Cup Round 6

scottwilson

At the weekend it was the 6th and penultimate round of the British National Trials cup, held at Hook Woods In Surrey. As is common recently It seems, I broke something before the competition ( During warm up before the comp I stripped my rear hub )and made a bad start. At least I’m consistent!

I made a bad start; I 5′d my first 3 sections and went on to 5 2 more times during the first lap. ( a 5 is the highest you can score In each individual section, the winner of the comp is whoever gets the Lowest score)
Five 5′s and a lap score of 31 over an 8 section lap is terrible (The max you could have scored was 40).

On my second lap however things just changed. It may have been because my first lap was so bad I knew I couldn’t do much worse but everything just went right. I didn’t really make any mistakes, 1 or 2 tiny things, but that was all. I felt good during the entire lap and ended up having No 5′s at all and finishing the second lap on 13!
This gave me 2nd place in the ‘UCI World Elite’ category ( highest class).
This is my highest ever position in a 26″ National event, so I am very pleased!
During the competition and Build up I was drinking BIO SYNERGY PURE ENERGY, by far the best drink I have used during an event.  In the days before I was using Bio Synergy WHEY BETTER and snacking on Bio Synergy Skinny Protein bars :)

8 Simple Rules for a Slim Christmas

Daniel

Like it or not, the great holiday juggernaut that is Christmas is rumbling out of hibernation and preparing to rear its garland-adorned head. Whether you’re ready or not for Bing Crosby on repeat, special-edition peppermint products, and heaps of holiday stress, now’s the time to prepare your battle plans.

If squeezing into that holiday dress required a Christmas miracle last year, Bio-Synergy’s got the expertise to make it happen. Follow these 8 Simple Rules to a Slim Christmas and you’ll be valuable real estate under the mistletoe come the 25th.

1. RISE AND SHINE
It’s the same for smart gift shopping as it is for the human body: get started early. And a week or two won’t cut it. Circle September 25th on the calendar. It’s exactly 13 weeks out, and it’s a must to use every second of that time to make important yet gradual changes to the body. Giving your body plenty of time to slim down has two important effects: it allows the weight loss to be permanent, and it avoids stressful last-minute diets that lead to yo-yoing weight and unhealthy eating.

2. OPEN YOUR EYES

A recent study found that shoppers who read the nutritional information of the food they buy weigh an average of 9 lbs less than those who don’t. Take an interest in what you’re eating and take a look at the label. If there are any ingredients listed that a 3rd grader couldn’t pronounce, drop it.

3. PULL THE SWEET TOOTH
Refined or processed sugars are a major source of empty calories – try to cut them out entirely. That means avoiding confectionary, soda, energy drinks, and white flour (bread, pastries, pasta, rice, etc.). For a healthier base to use with dinner, try quinoa or bulgur wheat. Both are high in fibre, lowcarb alternatives that bring a fresh twist to the old stirfry.

4.  A LITTLE HELP FROM YOUR FRIENDS
Smart supplementation can be the difference between success and failure in any weight-management program. Get some guardian angels on your side with proven weight-loss products like Bio-Synergy Body Perfect or Bio-Synergy CLA. Body Perfect uses powerful herbal extracts to boost your metabolism, and CLA burns up fat stored in cellulite. Taken together, they’re a powerful ally in the war on weight.

5. FEATS OF STRENGTH
While cardio work is important, it doesn’t burn nearly as much fat as resistance or weights work in the gym. Pick up a kettlebell or get to work with some resistance bands to develop the lean muscle that leads to a toned figure and can as much as triple your metabolism. Aim for at least 3 times a week for 45 minutes to an hour per session.

6. FRY AND DIE
Above all else, steer clear of fried foods. That means chips, crisps, and anything else dipped in a vat of saturated oils. Abs are made in the gym and revealed in the kitchen. They’re buried by fried food.

7. NOT ALL CARBS ARE BAD

Your body needs carbs – they’re an important source of daily energy. Just make sure to consume the right ones: fruits and vegetables. And frequently. Keep plenty of fruit on hand for snacking in between meals. Or try baking sweet fruits (ex. peaches, pineapple) with some cinnamon for a delicious dessert.

8. SPICE UP YOUR LIFE
Just because certain foods are on the no-go list doesn’t mean you’ll be eating flavourless pulp. Make sure to spice up your dishes with a healthy dose of metabolism-boosting spices like cayenne pepper, ginger, and garlic. Each have been shown to elevate the metabolism in the periods following eating and have the added benefit of tickling the palate.

Disapointing result at Premier race 6

ciaranlee

Since my last post training has been going really well! Apart from being ill for a week with a stomach bug (I think from dirty river water) I finished off my strength block having made big improvements and really feeling the difference on the water.  My training then changed emphasis to speed endurance training, mainly short efforts with short rest. While my technical training on the water took more of a delivery focus and keeping gym work down to a session or two a week.

At the end of August I travelled up to Grandtully, Scotland where I competed in an officials event as the main event was for Division 1, the division below the one I compete in. However there was some good competition in my event from competitors I race against in the Premier division. On both Saturday and Sunday I completed good runs down the course not picking up any penalties, enough to see me take the win on both days. I left the weekend confident that as I freshened up over the next two weeks I would be in really good shape for the next Premier division race in Nottingham on the 15/16 September.

Qualification on Saturday was a mixed bag. A very tough course set saw everyone competing pick up penalties and alot of mistakes being made. I knew that half of the 52 man field would be qualifying through to Sundays semifinal so I set off on my first run to deliver a solid run. On most of the course I did this apart from on one gate half way down where I lost around six seconds, I still placed 12th after first runs. Therefore on my second run I aimed to eliminate this mistake and push a bit harder in a couple of places, knowing if I did this it would firmly place me in the top 5. Unfortunately it didn’t work out like that; although I didnt have any big time losses, I did pick up a few penalties and a few small time losses, I ended with a slower run so my first run counted. I finished qualification in 16th , safely through to the Semifinal and confident having delivered some good stuff, even if it hadn’t all come together.

My semifinal got off to a poor start on an equally tricky course, with time losses over the first few gates and penalties on gates one, three and four I left myself alot to do to get into the 10 man final. Completing the rest of the course to plan, paddling through the last gate, gate 22 and crossing the finish line, I felt disbelief that I had started the run that poorly. I had left myself too much to make up, I posted a time that would have qualified me into the final in 8th but with penalties ontop I dropped to 14th, and that was my race over.

Although the result was disapointing, I know that if my run had all come together I would have been in the top 5. Also having watched the video I can see that the aspects I have been working on over the summer have got much better. I look forward to the final 3 races of the season to see if I can put it all together.
